Only THE LION KING, released in the "pre-DVD" era, sold more units when it debuted on VHS in 1995.|Typically, voice actors record their parts individually and never meet their costars -- but John Goodman and Billy Crystal broke animation protocol for MONSTERS, INC., and recorded their parts at the same time. Says Crystal: "I did the first session alone ... and I said, 'You know, this is terrible.'" Director Pete Docter "kept wanting all different line readings of the same line," Crystal says. '"Why am I doing all of these?' I asked. He said, 'Well, in case I change the scene around, and I'll get John to do it.' I said, 'Isn't that just silly? When we can be together and do it together and play the scenes?' And that's what we did. "|Singer-songwriter Randy Newman had been nominated for an Academy Award® 16 times -- and never won -- before he finally won for the song "If I Didn't Have You."
